Taking ceramics my senior year was an awesome opportunity to learn a new skill while also bonding with my classmates before graduation. All underclassmen should take a new elective before their high school career ends!

When I was signing up for classes as a junior, I was lucky enough to have an extra spot for an elective. I had no idea what class to pick, so I started looking through all of the options Cathedral has to offer, from pop culture class, to weightlifting, to the countless art classes. I settled on ceramics, which was something way out of my comfort zone since I don’t really consider myself a super artsy person. I was a little nervous, especially since I didn’t know if any of my friends were taking the same class.

Now, at the end of my senior year, I can confidently say that taking ceramics was one of the best choices I ever made! I had so much fun exploring a new hobby, and luckily there were a lot of other seniors in the class that I spent the whole year laughing and having fun with.

Every CCHS student who still hasn’t picked their senior year classes should strongly consider taking a brand new elective. It’s a great opportunity to try something new and bond with your classmates before graduation! Plus, having a fun break in a laid back class can alleviate a lot of the stress that seniors are often faced with.

Even if your schedule doesn’t have the space for an elective, I strongly encourage any upcoming seniors to take the leap, and try something new. Join a club, sports team, or extracurricular you never thought you’d try before. I guarantee the only regret you’ll have come graduation is NOT stepping out of your comfort zone more.
