Great White Shark attack off the Del Mar Coast. A beach that many CCHS students frequent weekly.

Just a week ago, on November 7th, a shark bit the leg of 50 year old woman Lyn Jutronich. The attack happened right off the Pacific coast of Del Mar. A beach that many Cathedral Students frequent regularly.

She was attacked on the upper part of her right thigh and she says that it felt like a dog bite.

“It was a really nice hot weekend day and it was cold all week so I wanted to go to the beach and refresh. I was at my friend’s house who lives near the beach and she told me about how the beach was closed because of the attack,” said Noemie Glover, senior Volleyball star. “I was really sad and shocked. I didn’t really realize that great white sharks were active in San Diego.”

Lifeguards and experts believe that the shark was a juvenile Great White. It’s very unusual for Great Whites to be this close on the San Diego coast. But, it wasn’t impossible since it was just a week ago.
