Remaining strong in Western League play, the Cathedral Catholic High School varsity basketball team defeated its rival the Saint Augustine High School Saints 56-48 yesterday at home.

CCHS (19-6) (6-0) fought back from trailing SAHS (21-5) (4-2) by 10 points in the second quarter.

The Dons came out firing during the opening stages of the second half, outscoring SAHS 21-8 in the third quarter.

CCHS credits its success to its in-game adjustments.

“In the second half, we began to run our plays better and keep the game at our pace,” CCHS varsity basketball player Nick Narcy ‘21 said.

The Dons held on to its lead down the stretch by maintaining ball possession and with solid shooting at the charity stripe.

Chibuzo Agbo ‘20 led the Saints in scoring, while Obinna Anyanwu ‘21 contributed 20 points to the Dons’ lead.

The Dons have defeated SAHS three times since last year, but the latest win boosts team spirit going into the later stages of the season.

“This win greatly boosts team morale because it proves the way we can play when we play together,” Narcy said. “SAHS is one of the better opponents, and beating them means we can take on any team in San Diego.”
