The Cathedral Catholic High School boys varsity basketball team defeated its Western League rival, the Saint Augustine High School Saints 59-57 last night.

CCHS (14-5) (2-0) and SAHS (16-4) (1-1) currently boast top three rankings in San Diego County, respectively.

SAHS hosted the first Holy War of the year, a game in which hundreds of fans from both sides created an electric atmosphere.

“The energy was unreal, I have seen nothing like it,” CCHS basketball team member Nick Narcy ‘21 said. “There were so many fans, you could feel their presence throughout the whole game.”

After the first three quarters of play, both teams were tied at 41 points apiece.

SAHS came out firing, leading the Dons by eight points in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, but CCHS finished strong, outscoring SAHS by 10 points in the final stretch.

“We were playing with more energy and drive, Narcy said. “That helped us keep the momentum and finish out the game.”
