Dons defeat Cougars

The Cathedral Catholic High School varsity softball team defeated Escondido High School 8-2 yesterday in a play-in game to advance to the San Diego Section Division l California Interscholastic Federation playoffs.

Solid team play offensively and defensively notched the Dons over the Cougars in the contest.

“Each player contributed to the win,” CCHS pitcher Anna Herrmann ‘21 said. “We hit very well and our defense played great.”

Sara Rusconi ‘19 led the surge offensively for the Dons after she blasted a homerun over the center field fence in the first inning to aid the Dons into gaining a 4-0 lead going into the second inning.

CCHS earned a date with Grossmont High School tomorrow on the road as a result of yesterday’s victory.

The Dons believe that keeping the chemistry will lead to its success in the coming games.

“We need to stick together and do our jobs to make it far in playoffs,” Herrmann said. “Playing as a team is our key to success.
