Lent-ing a helping hand

The Lenten Drive, held Monday by Cathedral Catholic High School Mission and Ministry, encourages students to bring $10 to their Red 1 class to aid four inner city local Catholic schools, including Our Lady’s School,  Nativity Prep Academy, St. Rita’s Catholic Church, and St. Katharine Drexel Academy, which students visit during LIGHT group service trips.

“As a school, we are trying to raise enough money to sponsor a scholarship for a student at each school,” Lent drive leader and CCHS student Hailey Colman ‘19 said.

Students are encouraged to donate as a way of giving back to their community, especially as the season of Lent highlights the theme of almsgiving.

Colman shares her personal connection to the cause of elementary education with hopes of inspiring other students to donate.

“I got to visit St. Rita’s when I was a sophomore, and it was by far my favorite service trip,” Colman said. “I loved working in a kindergarten class when I was there, and it confirmed my decision to study elementary education in college.”

Total amount raised was unavailable at post time.
