Academic League gains momentum

Cathedral Catholic High School’s Academic League season is in full swing after the varsity team secured recent victories against La Jolla Country Day 2-1, University City High School 2-1, and Mira Mesa High School 3-0.

The team is now 3-1 on the season after a loss to Scripps Ranch High School 3-0.

“After a few years as a team member, it was a lot of fun to take more responsibility as a captain, organize the team for tournaments, and run practices,” co-captain Dominic Sprigg ‘19 said.

Spring, co-captain Paulina Nguyen ‘19, and coach Mr. Dan Dahms lead the team Tuesday and Thursday during lunch practices and Thursday during competitions after school.

Each member specializes in a certain subject, which provides the team with a wide range of knowledge.

“It’s exhilarating to hear a question, realize I know the answer, and then rush to push the buzzer before the other team,” Sprigg said.

Hoping to keep the momentum, the Academic League will compete next against The Bishop’s School Feb. 21 at home.
