Hearts and mind

The Cathedral Catholic High School competition cheer team placed second yesterday in the California Interscholastic Federation finals, ending the event as runner-up.

“This competition was very different than any of our competitions in the past,” cheer team member Joey McDaniel ‘20 said. “We lost a lot of seniors, but we still tried to push ourselves to the limit, while keeping a positive attitude.”

Although the 18-member group performed as best as it could, the squad placed second with a five-point deduction. The Grossmont High School cheer team garnered top honors and placed first.

“I believe our team did the best we could,” team member Carly Davila ‘22 said. “We worked three times a week, and when we weren’t as a team, we were working as individuals.

“We performed with our hearts and minds, not our bodies.”
