“Do your work, have fun, and don’t fall behind!” says Mrs. Cindy Keller, who joined the Dons family after Christmas break last year. She moved to San Diego last year with her husband, who is in the military, and her two sons, who are eight and nine years old. Currently teaching Algebra 2 and Geometry, Mrs. Keller joined the math department in place of Mrs. Lisa Bruce, who was out on maternity leave. There were many teaching jobs available in San Diego, but Mrs. Keller said that she “fell in love with Cathedral’s faith-based campus.”

Before teaching at Cathedral, Mrs. Keller taught at high schools in Texas and Florida. She grew up in Plainview, Texas and received her Masters degree at Cameron University in Oklahoma. She decided to become a teacher when corporate jobs became too hard to maintain due to how often she moved for her husband’s job. She said that teaching is perfect for a family life style, and she loves it.

For Mrs. Keller, juggling a job and the raising two boys is easy because she can do her job while her kids are in school. Cathedral has been accommodating and finds subs when she needs to take off work if her children are sick while her husband is deployed. Keller’s favorite parts of Cathedral Catholic is “how disciplined and respectful the kids are and how the campus looks like a college campus.” She was pleasantly surprised when, after her first class, her students thanked her. She had never been thanked for teaching a math class before.

She said, “Cathedral has the nicest staff I’ve ever worked with.” The faculty has been very welcoming, which she says she is very appreciative for.

Living in a military family has made Mrs. Keller appreciate the military more. Moving all of the time isn’t easy for her. She has moved ten times in the past fourteen years due to her husband being in the military. Losing family friends or watching her friends lose family members has always been hard for her, but she said, “I made some of the best friends she will ever have.”

Mrs. Keller’s advises Cathedral students to “appreciate what we have here at Cathedral Catholic. The teachers here are willing to go the extra mile for their students, unlike in college.”
