“I’m thrilled to be a part of Cathedral’s staff and community,” Mrs. Julianne Velasco, a new school counselor, said. “The students are so welcoming and supportive; it’s like a big family.”
Before she became a counselor, Mrs. Velasco studied business and worked as a sales associate at a stock broking firm in La Jolla. For a time, she also volunteered at a Boys and Girls Club. There, she realized thaT she enjoys “…helping children reach goals and achieve scholarships.”
She experienced what she called a “pivotal moment,” when she discovered she appreciates “helping uncover options and navigate peaks and valleys” in the lives of the children she helps.
Budget cuts at her former school required the four counselors be released. She’d heard some good things about our school from her sister, who graduated from Cathedral when it was Uni, and she is finding the good things her work here.
“My favorite thing about working here at Cathedral is working with my students and getting to know my colleagues.”
