Varsity Girls Lacrosse

Overall Record: 9-4-0

League Record: 6-0-0

Looking Back: So far, CCHS is looking strong and undefeated in league. Last week CCHS played three away games against Mount Carmel, St. Catherine’s (UK) at home, and La Jolla at home. They crushed the Mount Carmel Sundevils with a final score of 19-0. They next had a game against St. Catherine’s, a team who flew out from the United Kingdom to play against CCHS and other San Diego county teams in league. “It was so cool to hear all their stories about lacrosse and their hometown and see how they liked San Diego,” Katie Bieraugel ‘17 said.

The last game they played last week was against La Jolla at home. The game was back to back with lots of scoring, the Dons ended winning with a final score 15-12.

Highlights: “These last couple of weeks I feel as if we’re really developed as a team. We’ve gotten stronger and more skilled altogether. It’s showed not only on the field but in the field but as well as the scores as well,” Chloe Riddlespurger ’18 said.

Around the Corner: On Friday, the Dons play against Point Loma High School at the Manchester Stadium at 6 p.m.

Varsity Track and Field

Current Record: 0-0 The record is based on the individual and his/her own records, and ultimately only some of the members on the team compete/qualify for CIF since it is based on the individual and his or her own score.  The meets that count for CIF/league are in early May.

Looking back: The track and field team beat La Jolla High School in most of the events.  Many of the members performed well, especially the distance members.  Knowing that La Jolla was a relatively easier competitor compared to some other schools, many of the members used the meet to prepare for their other upcoming meets.  However, even using the meet as additional practice, some members like Erin MacNeil ’16 made new personal records.  Some members were invited to an invitational meet, and there they will face some of the stiff competition.  The the Mt. SAC invitational and Jaguar invitational were held on the weekend.  Since members on the team have to be invited to those particular meets, they face tougher and more talented competition.  The invitationals tend to be more difficult to win; however, members still do relatively well even if the win is not as comfortable as the one they secured against La Jolla.

Notable Don: Erin MacNeil created her own personal record in the meet.  She won her 2 mile race in 11.55 minutes.  She broke 12 minutes, which is still an impressive time for that event.

Player’s Comment: “We beat La Jolla by a lot,” MacNeil ’16 said. “Our coach said that it was a comfortable win.”

Around the corner: The next meet will be against Serra High School at Manchester Stadium on April 21.

Varsity Badminton

Current Record: 0-4

Looking Back: The team lost 4-13 against Torrey Pines, which was one less point than the team’s first match. An experience player, who would have played two of the ranked matches, was out sick, and a substitute filled in for the person’s position.  With that in consideration, the team did relatively the same as in the first game.  Knowing that the competition against other schools is tough, the team just continues to win a few of the matches and gain more experience. The team also lost against Scripps Ranch, who won CIF the previous years; however, a few members on the team won some matches. Competing against the CIF champions also helped members on the team gain more experience, skills, and strategy for upcoming matches.

Player’s Comment: “I hope as a team we improve and reach the goal of winning seven points in a game,” Marielle Duran ’17 said.

Notable Don: Devany Harrell ’16 performed incredibly well in the past few games. She won a doubles match against Scripps Ranch, the CIF champions.  She also won both of her regular doubles and mixed doubles against Torrey Pines. Her victories helped add points for the team.

Around the corner: The next game will take place April 21 against La Jolla High School.

Varsity Girls Softball

Overall Record: 17-3-1

League Record: 5-0

Looking back: The Cathedral Catholic High School softball team won both of its games last week, bringing a high morale to the girl’s team. The team won 5-0 against both La Jolla High School and Point Loma High School. The softball team is looking to go far in CIF this year, hoping to win it all. Starting with league, the team must come together to go undefeated this season.

Around the Corner: The Cathedral Catholic Varsity softball team will play Mission Bay, Clairemont and University City this week.

Notable Don: Megan Faraimo is nominated for Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of California. This award is given to student athletes who excel in their performance throughout the year.

Player’s Comment: “I’m really happy with how the year has been going. We’ve been able to win games without a lot of our best players who graduated last year. I hope we win CIF this year because I think we deserve it,” Raven LeClair ’17 said.
