The Cathedral Catholic High School Varsity boys water polo team is fully equipped for a challenging season. With many returning players, the team’s starting line-up is ready to face all of their rivals.

Bishops High School and Coronado High School are two teams that will be tough to beat. Coronado, with a strong team of their own, has been a good match against the CCHS Varsity boys, testing their skills year after year.

Another strong competitor, Bishops, has played the Dons in the CIF Final Game for the past few years.

“[Bishops] is always a big rival to play against, and they have produced some epic battles in recent years,” Head Coach Mr. Brett Ormsby said.

Aside from the big games against Bishops and Coronado, the team has two very big tournaments to look forward to.

“We will have plenty of opportunities to test ourselves and improve throughout the year,” Mr. Ormsby said.

The North-South tournament in Palo Alto consists of the top high school water polo teams competing against one another. Closer to home, the team is playing Southern Section non-league games.

The CCHS JV boys have a busy year. Their biggest goal this year is efficiency in defense, and creating an explosive offense.

“We have quite a bit of talent, and players that are able to contribute to the team on a varsity level,” JV Coach Mr. Bojan Hrlec said.

The team is expecting to play to their potential and beat their competition.

“It will be a highly competitive league this year,” Mr. Hrlec said. “Our main focus is on ourselves, rather than [on our] our opponents.”

The CCHS Novice water polo team is bonding and improving their skills each day. The team doesn’t have rivals, so their only goal is to learn how to play the game.

The Novice team spends their Saturdays playing in tournaments and becoming a well-bonded group.

“All of our league games should be really good,” Novice Coach Mr. Chad Colden said. “Our league is comprised of the best teams in the county.”

The Novice team plans to practice good sportsmanship each game, and perfect their skills in staying above water.
