Cathedral Catholic High School’s JV Girls Cross Country team started its season August 13, preparing for its first meet September 5.

The JV team practices everyday after school for about two hours, completing core workouts and stretches. However, most of the practices vary daily and can include hill runs, tempo workouts, and aerobics.

Of the various workouts, JV cross country runner Gabi Burns prefers the core exercises. “My favorite exercise would be the ab workouts because they strengthen your core,” she said. “And after you finish [the workout], you feel good.”

The JV team practices similarly to the Girls Varsity Cross Country team. “They run the same principles, but don’t have as much running experience,” Cross Country Head Coach Mr. Dan Geiger said.

The JV team features members of all skill levels, ranging from experienced to novice. Participating on JV shapes the girls into better runners, preparing them for the upcoming season and maybe even for Varsity spots the following year.

Mr. Geiger wants the girls to enjoy the experience of team running, and hopes the girls run to the best of their abilities in order to reach their full potential.

“I hope to make new friends, break personal records on times, and improve overall as a runner,” Gabi said.
