You can smell the sweat dripping off the soon-to-be president’s face. The cold stillness as the crowds begin to settle and all eyes are drawn to the center of the room. There lies both candidates rehearsing their opening arguments for what could be the 1000th time just to hopefully win over one person inside this colossal-sized room. Reporters from all around the world pushing, shoving, screaming to get the scoop before their rivals. The lights begin to dim as everyone softens their voices for what might be the most intense hour of their lives. Now, let the skirmish begin!
This past December, Republican candidates, Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Chris Christie traveled to Montgomery, Alabama for the fourth presidential debate. Each candidate gave their testimonies and confessed to live television what they would do for this country once they became president.
During the debate Nikki Haley had all eyes and ears on her, everyone was waiting for the perfect moment to throw their pitchforks at her to get rid of yet another enemy standing in the way. Her candidates tried to spring up certain allegations about her and even with everyone waiting for her to fall she used those spears to empower and strike at those around her.
As one reporter from CBS News explained. “You can define who the winner is by the number of knives that are thrown at them” (source). This reporter is not the only one who believes in this logic- ever since the debate concluded, citizens are now wondering if her defense helped rather than hurt her chances of actually winning the election. Although Nikki Haley is taking a few steps in the right direction and understanding what she must do to win the election, they go on to say that Donald Trump still has a foot in the door. Even with all these debates, Donald Trump is still a fan favorite. As of now, he is just enjoying all the praise he is getting- this will be difficult for Haley to beat, but she is learning as time progresses.
Fast forward to January of 2024, when the fifth presidential election taking place in New Hampshire was unfortunately canceled. This was because Nikki Haley, a Republican candidate, is refusing to join any more debates unless either Donald Trump, former president and current Republican candidate, or Joe Biden, the current president as well as a Democratic candidate, will be attending and or debating against her. The cancellation of debates and attacks on personal matters begs the question: is the election not as important as it used to be and can anyone just run for president?
Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida and ex-Republican candidate for the presidential election dropped out of the running for President on January 21, 2024. This was shocking to not only many of the fans but also other candidates since he was seen as one, if not the strongest, opposer to Donald Trump. This was because he mentioned many times he would be directly competing against Mr. Trump. Although he mentioned this throughout his campaign, he targeted most of Biden’s policies instead, which could just show the type of President he would have become.
As of January 25, 2024, there are only 8 candidates left in the running for president. These include the last two, Donald Trump and Nikki Haley from the Republican side. Joe Biden, Marianne Williamson, and Dean Philips are all in the running from the Democratic side. Finally following them are Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein coming from the Third Party side.
For those of age to vote on Election Day this year, it is taking place on March 5, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is important for voters to support those who will see and hear the wishes of the people. Before that day comes, voters are encouraged to conduct as much research as possible to know who will be put in charge for the next 4 years, because the future of 2024 is counting on America.
