Boys rugby
The Cathedral Catholic High School boys varsity rugby team heads into its season with an untested squad and experienced coaching staff.
“We have a very young team this year, with only four varsity starters returning this season,” CCHS player Jake Cassidy ‘20 said. “This year, we are being coached by the USA Sevens Rugby team, which makes us really excited for the season”
Many rugby players participate in football, including Cassidy, who serves as the football team’s center and rugby team captain.
Playing both sports allows for an experience that enhances skills for both sports.
“I believe if you want to become a better football player, you need to play rugby,” Cassidy said. “Rugby will get you in the best shape, and it shows you how to tackle safely.”
The Dons play a hearty schedule, including games against California perennial powerhouses.
“This season we have a tough schedule, featuring teams like St. John Bosco High School, St. Augustine High School, and San Clemente High School,” Cassidy said.
