Boys and girls swim

The Cathedral Catholic High School boys and girls varsity swim teams look to replicate their success from last year after the boys and girls both garnered Division II California Interscholastic Federation San Diego Section Championships in the same season.

The same aspirations for top honors motivates this year’s teams.

“To have the success from last year, we can work on our individual events and chemistry,” CCHS swimmer Jillian Roberts ‘19 said. “I think that if everyone stays focused on their goals, it will be easy to work together and achieve another successful year.”

The Dons know accomplishing this feat will be difficult.

“Almost everyone on the teams qualify for CIF playoffs, but to win the championship we are going to have to work as a team to capture as many points as possible in our meets,” CCHS swimmer Johannes Ong ‘21 said.

Along with winning the Division II CIF San Diego Section Championship, both the boys and girls have won the City Conference for the Western League the past two years. Practice and league meets during the year present the team with great opportunities.

“League meets prepare us and give us the opportunity to compete against other San Diego Division II High Schools,” Ong said. “This also gives us great experience for our swimmers to prepare for the bigger meets at the end of season.”
