Boys Volleyball
After losing only two seniors from last year’s squad, CCHS boys varsity volleyball head coach Mr. Paul Ariaza has little room for addition or change, but that will not stop him from leading his team to victory.
“This year we are focusing on running a fast offense and being scrappy on defense,” Mr. Araiza said. “Our passing and ball control is always a focus for my teams, but I think this year will be a more offensive focus since we have good passers.”
In addition to Mr. Araiza’s leadership, the team will be looking to its three seniors for direction, all of whom have been named team captains. These boys include Mike Madden, Tim McLoughlin, and Chris Pua.
The seniors are not the only star athletes on the team, however. Surprisingly, the younger athletes have risen to the occasion.
“Trent Teofilo and Greg Bagglio have significant roles as freshman as they are earning starting spots on the team,” Mr. Araiza said.
The team was placed this year in one of the harder leagues in San Diego, but outside of the league teams, the boys look forward to taking on the consistently challenging Sage Creek High School, La Costa Canyon High School, and Torrey Pines High School.
