It’s that time of year again…the temperature is cooling, the leaves are turning colors, and the fall sports season is now in full swing. The first sports season of the 2024-2025 school year is now here! Some fall sports include Boys’ Football, Girls’ Tennis, Girls’ Flag Football, and many more! Let’s get a look into how the season is going for these teams.
Currently 4-1, with the goal of winning the open division this year, the Boys’ Football team is starting us off strong with standout performances and memorable moments being made during the games each week. Wide receiver Hunter Harrington ’26 explains the preparation for the games: “There are many hard weeks of practice. Coach Doyle and Coach Montali set up game plans for both the offense and the defense, to best prepare us.” The team faced a tough loss against St. Ignatius with the final score of 16-14.
Harrington also explains challenges faced so far within the season: “Our week 4 loss was a challenge that the team faced, especially having a number of players sit out due to transfer rules.” The team is off to a great start for the season, showing the hard work that is put in not only during practice, but on the field as well.
Now, heading to the courts with the Girls’ Tennis team. Captain Emma Mortimer ’25 gives us a deeper look into the season, explaining the most memorable moments of the season so far: “The team went on a trip to Santa Barbara together, and ended up winning the whole tournament!” Mortimer exclaimed. “Senior night was also very memorable, where we all gave speeches and wore flower crowns!” There is so much in store for the rest of the season with the girls.
As much as the team prepares with practices and training, there’s much more than that to make a great team. Mortimer expresses, “It is really important that we are always encouraging each other. We always try to cheer for one another as we can see how it affects our play.” As the season progresses, the Girls’ Tennis team will continue to shine, and dominate their matches!
Back to the field with the Girls’ Flag Football team. In League, the girls are 4-0! Sophomore Addy Dean gives perspective of what game day looks like for the team: “Prior to games, we sit together and braid each other’s hair, while bonding,” Dean explains. “After that, we warm up and say a prayer, that way we are all in the same headspace for the game ahead of us!”
As the rest of the season is coming along for the Girls Flag Football team, “getting the opportunity to bond even more with the team and winning even more games” is something that Dean is looking forward to. The team will continue to demonstrate skill and teamwork within their games.
The Dons have celebrated so many successful moments in the Fall Sports season so far. The dedication of our teams here at CCHS is clear, as is proven during competition. With the season continuing, more thrilling performances and growth of players from all the sports teams seem like a given!
