The CCHS varsity dance team includes twenty-four determined and hardworking girls. Last year, the team took the place of National Champions. This year, they are putting in more and more work in order to defend their title.
Gianna Mojonner ‘24 explains, “While prepping for nationals, the team practices 4-5 times a week for 2 hours. [We] also add in morning practices as nationals get closer. Dancers are also required to take 4 dance classes a week in order to get stronger and further their dance training.”
On top of having practices almost every day, dancers have to take additional private lessons so they can keep improving. Oftentimes, this behind-the-scenes work goes unnoticed; however, through this intense practice schedule, the team is setting themselves up for success this school year. One main reason the team is so successful is because the athletes all have a special bond which allows them to work together well and increase the synergy between them. The team collaborates by participating in many team bonding activities such as team sleepovers, team dinners, and getting ready for games together.
Zsofia Grenevitch ‘25 tells us that her favorite part of being on the team is “the dedication and love we all share for dance. We are all like sisters and the environment on the team is incomparable”.
The team has already started working on their routines for nationals and will continue to work harder and harder as the competition approaches. Hopefully, all the hard work pays off and they are able to keep their title of National Champion!
