On September 22, the air starts to cool, the leaves change colors, and all the smells of fall are embraced. This is the perfect time of the year to begin binge-watching some cozy fall movies. If you are stuck, here are a few fan favorites from our Dons community and widespread favorites.
The first five in this list come from the best fall movies from Vanity Fair:
- Little Women: This movie is about four young sisters navigating life after the Civil War. The sisters are brought back together after they learn that their youngest sister has developed a devastating illness. It is based on the best-selling novel by Louisa May Alcott.
- Mona Lisa Smile: In 1953, a recent UCLA graduate was hired to teach art history at a prestigious all-female Wellesley College. She was determined to confront society’s outdated norms for women.
- The Day Trippers: Eliza D’Amicos, thought to have a perfect marriage, seemingly discovers what she believes to be a love letter from someone else. Eliza goes to her family for support. So her mother, father, younger sister, and her sister’s boyfriend set out to confront Louis. During the process, they learn more about one another than ever before.
- Clock Watchers: Determined to reach her career goals, Iris lands a temporary job at Global Credit. She ends up making three good friends, all opposites of each other. Margot’s friends yearn for a [permanent job], but the company ends up dealing with office thefts, and Iris becomes suspicious of her friends.
- Stepmom: Three years after a divorce, Jackie, the mother of Luke Harrison’s children, decides to take the next step with Luke’s significantly younger girlfriend, fashion photographer Isabel Kelly. When Kelly meets Luke’s children, their fierce loyalty to them is prominent. Kelly fails to win over the kids, but a devastating family crisis changes everything.
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Based on the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz, this animated film follows the children of the Peanuts comics as they celebrate Halloween, with a focus on Linus waiting in a pumpkin patch for the mythical Great Pumpkin. Riley Marlin, a CCHS sophomore, explains that this movie is “a great feel-good movie” that she grew up watching and definitely recommends as a cozy fall watch.
- Gilmore Girls: Yes, it’s not a movie, but this classic show makes the list. Gilmore Girls is an emotional rollercoaster that essentially navigates the protagonist Rory through her youth into her young adulthood, while her mom Lorelei is a young single mom steering her through her life as a young mom. Mya Connolly, another sophomore, states, “I love this show so much; the relations between the mom and daughter are awesome.”
These movies are all amazing fall watches! This author especially recommends Little Women and Gilmore Girls. Fall is arguably one of the best times of the year to snuggle up under a blanket, drink hot cocoa, and enjoy amazing movies! So if you are bored and looking for a good watch, look at these!
