Whether you are looking to ride a Ferris wheel overlooking Del Mar or feast on some deep fried treats, the San Diego County Fair is the perfect destination for friends and family this summer.

The fair, located at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, will run from May 31 through July 4, and admission for adults (ages 13-61) is $20.

This year’s theme is “Oz-some,” inspired by the classic tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Upon entrance, visitors will see a Yellow Brick Road, journey into the interactive Emerald City, and observe props from the 1939 film on display.

Many fair vendors will offer new snacks and beverages inspired by the 2019 theme, including Flying Monkey Caramel Corn and Ruby Red Lemonade.

Additionally, the “Ride FastPass”, a new pass option, will allow fairgoers to skip to the front of lines at the cost of $20 per person. The “FunPass” is a recently adapted mobile app also meant to streamline and ride ticket process.

Aside from classic fair rides including the Big Wheel and the Mega Drop, visitors will also be able to enjoy new attractions including “The Endeavour”, an open-air suspended passenger vehicle, and hot air balloon rides by local company Magical Adventure Balloon Rides & Aerial Tours.

Lastly, aside from the outrageous food and rides, the entertainment lineup includes Toby Keith (June 14), Smokey Robinson (June 15), and Pitbull (June 29).

“The fair is a place to enjoy yourself with friends and family,” CCHS Lukas Fuster ’21 said. “Almost anything you could ask for is at the fair, so the real question is why wouldn’t you go?”
