It’s that time of the season. Love is in the air and most certainly all around our Cathedral Catholic High School campus. As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, many couples around Cathedral prepare for the most heart-throbbing day of the year.

“Heart balloons, chocolates, teddy bears, flowers, candy grams, all of these things are essential for a girl on Valentine’s Day. Well, at least for me,” said senior Giulia Ferrara as she gave a hinting smile to her boyfriend, senior Michael Guerena. Giulia and Michael have been dating for three years and three months. They were introduced to each other at a party by mutual friends.

“Shout out to Drew, Natalie, and Carter for forcing us to be together. It has worked out pretty well. She’s my favorite,” said Michael. Since they have been together for a while now, and have passed two Valentine’s Days together, they try to make every day like Valentine’s Day and make every day special. Their plans for Saturday include having dinner at Popeyes and just spending the whole day together, just like every other day.

Another couple that we can see walking around school together, laughing and holding hands, consists of Natalie Klinge and Drew Cowell. Both seniors, they met in Mr. Terizoli’s math class freshman year, and have been together for three years.

Natalie said, “Drew asked me out at the weirdest time. Now we laugh about it, but he asked me to be his girlfriend in the middle of a movie. We were watching The Devil Inside, and right when this woman was being possessed by a demon, he turned and looked at me and asked ‘Hey, do you want to be my girlfriend?’” They will join Giulia and Michael for dinner at Popeyes for their Valentine’s Day plans. For these two couples, Valentine’s Day will be nothing out of the ordinary. Just like Michael and Guilia, Drew said, “I try to make every day Valentine’s Day for Natalie. There’s nothing better than dating your best friend.”

Seniors Ryan Johnston and Gaby Foyle like to keep things exciting, so Ryan is keeping their plans “on the down low. I’m gonna keep it secret from her but I will just tell you that it includes brownies, which are her favorite, and flowers which are a must,” he said. The couple said that they were “excited to see how their day plans out and just happy to be together and being able to spend one more Valentine’s Day together before going to college.”

Even if you’re one those people who enviously watch those who receive the balloons, chocolates, teddy bears, flowers, and candy grams, you can still spread the love around with your family and friends. However, if you’re one of those people who is in a relationship, be sure to spend your Valentine’s Day with the person you love and make every day as special as February 14th.
