Boys soccer looks to start league strong

Boys soccer looks to start league strong

A last second equalizer by the Canyon Crest Academy Ravens’ Collin Seitz tied the score at 1-1 with the host Dons during the Friday night Boys Soccer contest at Manchester Stadium. The tie brought the Dons to a 3-2-3 overall record as they now look forward to the start of league play.

The game’s scoring came late in the second half for both teams. Cathedral scored first as Colin Maehler’s shot kissed back net with about two minutes left in the match. The hard-fought game left a disappointing feel in the hearts of Dons fans as the Ravens clawed out a tie on the last play of the game. The Cathedral supporters left Manchester Stadium quickly and quietly after the games completion.

The game had plenty of ups and downs, as has the Dons season thus far. A strong start with wins against La Costa Canyon (3-0) and Mt. Carmel (2-1) folllowed by tough losses against Patrick Henry (3-4) and Torrey Pines (1-2) set the Dons record close to .500.

The Dons’ offensive attack, led by Mike Semenza, has been characterized by opportunistic scoring spurred on by midfielders Ian Calvert and Colin Maehler throughout the season. The strong defensive front is headed up by senior defender Dylan Stafford and goalkeeper Nicola Garbella.

As the team continues to grow into a more cohesive family, the Dons will add more games to the win column. Senior forward Mike Semenza relays that the Dons look to start league strong and hopefully finish on top of the standings.
