It seems like everyday there is a new political scandal. Will the job of a political journalist every be over?

Classified documents have been found at United States President Joe Biden’s Wilmington Home. These documents originated from his time as Vice President under former President Barack Obama.

The Justice Department is currently conducting a review to determine and advise Attorney General Merrick B. Garland who is deciding whether the findings of these documents warrant the appointment of a special counsel.

Biden is “cooperating fully and completely” with the review, but has deflected questions about the documents after giving a speech on inflation on Thursday at the White House.

It is still not clear how many documents were found at his home. Biden’s lawyer made a statement that these documents consist of “personal and political papers.”

The initial search for these documents started in November, when documents were discovered at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.

This incident mirrors a similar investigation of former President Donald Trump’s possession of and failure to return sensitive documents.

Many democrats have made statements in favor of Biden, arguing that the discovery of these documents are different from Trump’s documents, which led to his impeachment.

“I have full faith in President Biden,” said Hakeem Jeffries, Minority House Speaker.

Majority House Speaker Kevin McCarthy believes that “Congress has to investigate this,” in reference to the timeline of discovery from the initial documents, found before the 2022 Midterm Election, and the newest documents found.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed Robert Hur, who was a former Trump-appointed U.S. attorney for Maryland, as special counsel to investigate this mishandling of documents. This appointment has been made based on a recommendation of John Lausch, an United States attorney in Illinois.

Many people are questioning why the discovery of the first documents wasn’t made public back in November, and also questioning how an investigation wasn’t being made back in February, when the investigations of Trump’s handling of documents came to a head.
