As Red Ribbon Week comes to an end, it is still important to reflect on the awareness of drugs and alcohol.

Red Ribbon Week celebrates the importance of making the right decisions and being aware of drug and alcohol usage. This week shared the message of being drug-free and not drinking while driving.

To make this week fun and spread awareness, ASB put together a spirit dress theme for each day of the week and activities during lunch. During the week, a car, wrecked as a result of drunk driving, was on campus to provide a visual about the dangers of drinking while driving. Students were reminded of this every time they walked to class.

CCHS started the week with a dedicated lunchtime Mass for Red Ribbon Week. On Wednesday, there was a faculty vs. students basketball game and a mini petting zoo. Thursday, CHP officers showed students how alcohol can impact their vision and reactions, and on Friday, all students went to the quad to “celebrate life” with music, food trucks, and games.

After watching a video about the dangers of fentanyl and discussing it within classes, students learned more about the risks of this drug. It made students more aware of how careful they need to be — that the smallest grain of this drug is odorless and can kill a person instantly, making it very deadly and hard to notice in other substances.

Most students said that Red Ribbon Week reminds them of the importance of making good decisions and taking time to do the things they enjoy. The El Cid team hopes that everything we learned this week will continue to be important in our lives.
