At Cathedral Catholic High School retreats, students learn to build community and grow in their faith. Freshman retreat gives the Class of 2019 an opportunity to experience this for the first time on campus.

“It is going to be a lot of fun,” Mr. Jeff Gramme, Campus Ministry retreat teacher, said. “[Retreat] will give freshmen a chance to learn about themselves and learn about God.”

Freshman retreat will take place this Wednesday and Thursday. Students with last names A-L will attend retreat on Wednesday and those with last names M-Z will attend retreat on Thursday. Mr. Gramme and Campus Ministers are hosting the retreat during school hours.

Each retreat is based on a line from the CCHS school prayer. This year, the freshman retreat theme is “You are the light in Our House. Let your gifts shine.”

“I don’t want to give away too much,” Mr. Gramme said. “Everything that happens at the retreat should be surprising and new for the students.”

Campus Ministers have planned many activities for the retreat, including Mass and a surprise speaker. Several of the events and activities will take place in small groups so that Campus Ministers can fit in all the activities they have planned. Mr. Gramme wants freshman to have fun on retreat, but also to learn about themselves and God, too.

“I came from a smaller school, but now I am at Cathedral,” freshman Ben Nash said. “I am looking forward to getting to know some of my fellow classmates since I don’t know many people here because Cathedral is such a large school.”

There will also be games during the retreat. Many of them will take place outside of the Guadalupe Center, although some will require students to go to different parts of campus. Mr. Gramme would like all freshman to check their emails soon in order to find out who their small group leader is and where to meet when the retreat begins.
Mr. Gramme hopes freshman are getting excited about the retreat as “…this is one of the most important events for freshman during the school year,” said Mr. Gramme.
