On November 25th, the annual Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day Walk will take place in Balboa Park at 8 AM. Cathedral Catholic students can earn indirect service hours by helping to set up on Wednesday the 24th from 1 to 6 PM.
The Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day Walk is a fundraiser that benefits the homeless, many of whom are young children.
As he sat at his desk and glanced at his three Fr. Joe bobble heads, AP Economics and Statistics teacher Mr. Tom Rickling who has, for the past three years, taken Cathedral students to walk in the event, said of the work of the Fr. Joe organization, “What don’t they do?…They have programs to find work for the homeless, and they also get them the skills they need to work. They do just about anything you can think of.”
CCHS students along with their friends and family members are encouraged to attend the walk. “Last year, over twenty students participated in the walk,” said Mr. Rickling. “Helping others is a cool way to start off your Thanksgiving Day. That’s the spirit of the holiday.”
Students who wish to partake in the walk can sign up through Mr. Rickling or on Father Joe’s website, http://www.thanksgivingrun.org. Those who wish to earn service hours can come to the Speckles Organ Pavilion on the 24th to help set up.
