Anyone interested in the arts can talk to Mr. Ian Lewis, the new drama, photography, and speech teacher. He “fell in love with music” at a young age, and he hasn’t stopped playing ever since.

Mr. Lewis grew up here in sunny San Diego with one brother. After graduating from high school, he decided to stay around and attend SDSU where he would major in music education. He knew that he wanted to major in this since he was a freshman in high school.

Mr. Lewis’ favorite instruments are the guitar and the bassoon. He also enjoys taking pictures – his wife, Charise, got him into photography. “I came on as her assistant, so I’ve been doing professional photography for the past few years. She taught me everything,” Mr. Lewis said.

Mr. Lewis’ favorite part of teaching photography is helping students get the image that they want. Music and photography are only two of his hobbies – others include teaching drama tech and speech. His favorite part of drama is the energetic and lively kids that he teaches. Mr. Lewis enjoys speech because he can help students improve their communication skills.

Although Mr. Lewis is new to the Cathedral campus this year, and he is the youngest teacher on campus, this is not his first time around the block. He has experience teaching kindergarten and elementary school music as well as choir, guitar, and piano in a different high school. Even though he is already teaching three different classes, he also hopes to teach choir next year. He said, “I will go on from anywhere God takes me.”
