Two individuals work to install one of the gallery’s latest newest art pieces, from an exhibit entitled Monet to Matisse. People can view this stunning piece and so many more through October 10th.

In the heart of San Diego stands Balboa park. A cultural oasis, Balboa Park is home to many hidden gems of the city, such as the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Air and Space Museum. Yet the most beautiful and impactful gem, in my opinion, is the San Diego Museum of Art. Containing one of the most diverse collections of art and historical exhibits, this art museum is definitely not one to miss when spending a day exploring the park

One of the exhibits that currently resides in the museum is Monet to Matisse. These names belong to the impressionist movement, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse. Both of these artists defined this movement with their artwork, a movement that emphasized painting on location, rather than from a sketch in a studio. Many more artists and their work are on display, popular names such as Degas, Picasso and Bonnard. 2022 marks the first time in which these pieces are on view in California, and this exhibit extends through October 10th.

Speaking of Pablo Picasso, another exhibit in the San Diego Museum of Art pays tribute to his contributions to the world of art. Titled Picasso: Drawings and Prints, viewers can see the life of this great artist depicted through his pencil and paintbrush. The collection even includes some pieces involving Cubism, the art style in which he largely pioneered. Picasso’s commitment to his artwork shines through in this beautiful exhibit, which remains in San Diego until January 29, 2023.

With October being part of Hispanic Heritage Month, it is a perfect time to view and appreciate the works of Sergio Hernández. Hernández is a Mexican artist, who has made this exhibit his first solo exhibition in the United States. His artwork pays homage to his lineage, the beauty of Indigenious people and the way they view the natural world. Much of his artwork includes intricately drawn designs, with vibrant colors that pop and contrast. This exhibit is definitely not one to miss, and will be on display until November 12th.

Furthermore, every piece of artwork displayed in the San Diego Museum of art is worth viewing. From popular works to up-and-coming artists, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy. Make sure to visit and experience the beauty of Balboa Park, and attend the exhibits before they are gone!
