This week was filled with sports excitement as several of the CCHS sports teams continued their pursuits of CIF championships. The boys varsity soccer team triumphed over San Pasqual and Torrey Pines to advance to the CIF state playoffs. The boys varsity basketball team also continued its winning ways Thursday with a win over Saint Augustine High School for  the third time this season. Sadly, the team lost Saturday night to Foothills Christian at the Jenny Craig Pavilion at USD in the CIF San Diego Section Open Division finals. Aside from sports, campus ministers and LIGHT groups were hard at work, serving the San Diego community. Mrs. Mary Snyder’s LIGHT group helped to organize food at Catholic Charities’ storage room during a service trip. Mr. Nicolas Hurt’s campus ministry service class learned about the effects of economic inequality by methods such as “rigged monopoly” in which the bank decides to take property and money from players whenever it wants, and the citizens cannot do anything about it. In terms of weather, San Diego finally welcomed back some rain for a revival of the El Niño promised all summer by weather casters.
