Girls Soccer

Overall Record: 18-3-3
League Record: 6-0-0
Looking Back: Last week Cathedral Catholic High School girls soccer team has held the privilege of calling itself undefeated the previous week in league games.  The team defeated Point Loma High School 3-1 and Scripps Ranch High School 4-0.
Golden Moment: “I’m honestly so excited for what we have left in the season,” Katya Prtymouer ‘18 said. “If we keep on playing the way the way we have been, we are sure to win CIF’s again this year.”
Los Locos: 3 out of 5
Around the Corner: Next week CCHS will play against La Jolla High School on Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. at the Manchester Stadium. It will also play against Patrick Henry High School on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Manchester Stadium. Senior Night will be held after the last league game against PHHS.

Fencing

Looking Back: The Fencing team held its last practice on Feb. 10.  Its last tournament took place Jan. 31 at Griphon Studios in Placentia, CA.  While none of the fencers received any rankings at the tournament, many of the members grew in experience.  Even after its tournament, the team still practiced normally with stretches, sprints, and skill based activities.
Around the Corner: The team finished its last official tournament in January, and practices finally concluded this past Wednesday.  The team banquet will recognize the member’s efforts from both the pre-season and the active season.
Player’s Comment: “I think this year went well,” Miya McLaughlin ’16 said.  “This season we had more newcomers that have a lot of potential for upcoming seasons.”
Finale: The fencing team officially ended its season and while the team’s last tournament took place in January, members of the team continued to practice until this past Wednesday.  The practices had the same rigorous format, as the fencers did a variety of exercises including sprints, stretches, and scrimmages.  The practices hoped to prepare many of the members for next year.  This year, the team was composed of many new members and underclassmen.  While some of the seasoned members prepare to graduate this year, they hope that the other members would have the same passion for the sport for the next season.

Boys Soccer

Overall Record: 9-6-2
League Record: 8-1-2
Looking Back: The team crushed University City High School with a final score of 7-1.  The team angered UCHS with its speed, but ultimately boosted its own self-esteem with hard work and determination.
Notable Don: Milo Barton ‘16 scored four goals for the team and assisted the other players with their own goals.
Golden Moment: Barton scored all of his goals within the time span of seven minutes.  Some goals were near misses, Barton did not stop until the ball hit the back of the net.  UCHS defenders could not keep up with him and the goalie could only collapse on the ground in defeat after Barton’s fourth goal.
Around the Corner: For the team’s final league game, it will be playing La Jolla High School at Manchester Stadium on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.  It will be Senior Night, so after the game the team will be celebrating all of its seniors and their participation on the team.

Girls Water Polo

Overall Record: 11-18
League Record: 2-5
Looking Back: The team lost a tough game to La Jolla High School with a final score of 4-13.  With an extreme lack of enthusiasm to win, LJHS had no trouble swimming past the defense and scoring goal after goal after goal.
Notable Don: Hannah Edwards ‘17 blocked close shots and attempted to bring up the spirits of her team.  Edwards guided her team through the game and would not go down without a fight.
Around the Corner: League has just ended for the team and it will be preparing to match up against Carlsbad High School for the CIF quarter final game.  The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the La Jolla High School Aquatic Center.

In-Line Hockey

Overall Record: 10-5-0
League Record: 10-5-0
Looking Back: Cathedral Catholic High School annihilated West Hills High School Wolfies at Kit Carson Park last Monday and racked up a score of 15-1. After winning three consecutive games between Jan. 28 and Feb. 8, CCHS met its match on the field last Wednesday when they lost to Rancho Bernardo High School with a final score of 4-6.
Notable Don: Drew Jones ‘17 played well the entire game against RBHS when most players simply did not bring the stamina that was needed to defeat a powerful and well-ranked team.
Player’s Comment: “We didn’t play well on Wednesday because Rancho Bernardo is one of the best teams in the league,” Adam Stocker ’16 said. “We’re training to perform better in our next match against the Saintsmen, and it’s worth bringing up that we pretty much crushed them 17-3 last match, so it should be a better game than we played last week against Rancho.”
Golden Moment: CCHS played against one of the best teams in the league on Wednesday, so any of the four goals that were scored seemed relieving. Jones scored a goal and performed well, but CCHS didn’t have the strength and endurance in them to overcome the Wolfies.
Around the Corner: CCHS will be playing its last game against St. Augustine at 8 p.m. on Thursday at Kit Carson Park.

Girls Basketball

Overall Record: 7-17-0
League Record: 5-6-0
Looking Back: Cathedral Catholic High School battled with Mission Bay High School, taking the win home with a final score of 40-33.
Around the Corner: The team will play their last game of the season against Lincoln High School this Friday at 6 p.m. in the Claver Center. Not only is this game the player’s senior night, but their last “hurrah” on the court as well.

Wrestling

Overall Record: 6-5
League Record: 2-3
Looking Back: Varisty Wrestling took a needed break to train for CIF on Feb. 20.
Around the Corner: The team will continue training for CIF as it draws closer.
Notable Don: Garrett Seaver hopes to place this year after placing in multiple previous tournaments.
Coach’s Comment: “We could use much more practice, but we are expecting to have multiple placers and hopefully go to Section Masters,” said Head Coach Jason Gigliotti
