The varsity boys basketball team, currently 12-7, take on the University City Centurions this Friday at 7:30 in the Clavier Center. The Centurions have two wins and seven losses in league play on the season and are coming off of a 60-46 loss vs. Lincoln from Tuesday.

The Dons have already faced UC this year with the game ending in a 76-61 Dons victory.

“The last time we played UC we did all the right things. We made our shots, played good defense, and ran our plays well. The team is feeling pretty confident, especially this time at our home court,” said Assistant Varsity Coach, Mr. Matt Roy.

Last game against the Centurions, junior forward Austin Beech led the Dons in scoring with nineteen points and also contributed with five rebounds. “I gave what the defense gave me and went from there. I have to credit my teammates because they found me when I was open and competed very well against UC.”

The Dons are also coming off of a huge win against Saint Augustine last Friday at Point Loma Nazarene. Cathedral won the game in a tight contest as the game ended 58-54 in Cathedral’s favor.

“The win put us in a great chance to win League and was a statement game for us. It proved that we can beat anyone in San Diego. Saints was the 6th ranked team in San Diego and first in our league. If we can beat them I like our chances versus anyone going forward,” said Coach Roy.

Currently, Cathedral sits tied with Mission Bay for 2nd place in league, both having a record of five wins and two losses. The win against Saints handed the Saintsmen their first loss in league play, as they have the best record in the Western League with a record of seven wins and one loss. Given a win against the Centurions this week, the Dons could look to be one game behind Saints in league, as Saints have already defeated Mission Bay this week.
